Job summary

King County’s Office of Risk Management Services (ORMS) seeks a Risk Management Insurance & Contracts Manager to lead insurance program development, contract risk transfer and recovery claims oversight for King County engagements.

This role supervises insurance and contract staff and coordinates insurance for contracts with third parties, while applying equity and social justice principles across work and decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience managing complex insurance programs for large organizations.
• Ability to negotiate insurance requirements and contractual risk transfer language.
• Experience managing first-party and recovery claims.
• Experience leading a public sector or government team.
• Professional risk management designations (ARM, CPCU, CRM).

Responsibilities

• Oversee the County’s comprehensive self-insured liability and large commercial insurance portfolio (>20 coverages).
• Manage insurance broker contracts and relationships.
• Develop boilerplate contract language and update related policies.
• Advise officials and departments on risk matters and collaborate on resolutions.
• Supervise staff: hire, assign, schedule, evaluate performance.
• Coordinate loss control projects with Risk Manager and departments.
• Assist with budget development and staffing needs.
