Placements24 is seeking a Senior RF Engineer to design, analyze, optimize, and test RF systems for wireless devices and infrastructure. This remote role supports operations in South Africa and beyond, focusing on next-generation wireless solutions across 5G, LTE, and related standards.

The candidate should have a strong background in RF propagation, antennas, and transmission lines, with proficiency in HFSS, ADS, and MATLAB.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in RF engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive RF engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of RF propagation, antennas, and transmission lines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop RF systems and components for wireless devices and infrastructure.
• Perform RF link budget analysis, simulation, and modeling.
• Optimize RF network performance through drive testing and data analysis.
• Troubleshoot RF interference and propagation issues.
• Specify RF components including antennas, amplifiers, filters, and transceivers.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams for integration of RF solutions.
• Develop and execute test plans and validate RF performance.
• Stay current with RF technology and 5G/LTE standards.
• Prepare technical documentation for stakeholders.
• Mentor junior RF engineers and share knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop RF systems and components for wireless communication devices and infrastructure.
• Perform RF link budget analysis, simulation, and modeling using industry-standard tools.
• Optimize RF network performance, including coverage, capacity, and quality, through drive testing and data analysis.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex RF interference and propagation issues.
• Specify and select RF components, including antennas, amplifiers, filters, and transceivers.
• Collaborate with hardware and software development teams to ensure seamless integration of RF solutions.
• Develop and execute test plans for RF systems and conduct performance validation.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in RF technology and wireless standards (e.g., 5G, LTE).
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor junior RF engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in RF engineering, with a strong focus on wireless systems.
• In-depth knowledge of RF propagation, antenna theory, and transmission line principles.
• Proficiency with RF simulation and design tools (e.g., HFSS, ADS, MATLAB).
• Experience with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers).
• Strong understanding of wireless standards such as GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and 5G NR.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting, supporting areas like Welkom.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with EM simulation software and antenna design.
