Job summary

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Harrisburg, PA is seeking a Buyer responsible for sourcing, selecting and procuring products for retail stores. This role requires effective communication with vendors and securing favorable deals that meet margin expectations.

You will initiate the buying process, build vendor relationships, attend trade shows, set pricing, and manage department finances with a focus on volume and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Higher education related to business management preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of retail experience in buying or demonstrated learning through internal development.
• Ability to work effectively in a professional environment.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all team members as well as guests.
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
• Ability to complete assignments in the time allotted.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and direct all aspects of the buying process to ensure purchase of the best products at the best price.
• Work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products and build relationships.
• Attend trade shows to keep informed of new products and ideas and develop vendor relations.
• Research products and markets for competitive knowledge.
• Set retail and competitive pricing for merchandise.
• Manage the department financials for which they buy.
• Determine which products should be featured in advertising.
• Negotiate prices, discount terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise.
• Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to determine sales and how much inventory is needed.
• Manage a high volume of buying workload.
• Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
