Job summary

SouthState Bank, N.A. in Florida seeks a Senior Residential Construction Specialist to oversee construction loans from pre-closing to completion. You will ensure policy alignment, coordinate with borrowers, builders, and internal teams, and mitigate risk through thorough review and decision-making.

The Senior Specialist acts as a subject matter expert, can approve builders, contracts, budgets, deposits, and minor procedure exceptions, while mentoring junior staff and guiding complex cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10+ years in residential mortgage lending, residential construction, or both.
• State Builder or General Contractor License.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive review of construction contracts to ensure alignment with policy and procedures.
• Identify and resolve contract inconsistencies, communicating risk to Borrower/Builder.
• Provide a cursory review of the Builder.
• Discuss construction process with Builder and Borrower at loan application, including reviews of disclosures.
• Validate and finalize the appropriate budget for inspection/draw process.
• Determine builder deposit and recoupment method.
• Onboard and guide MLOs and CLA funding specialists for inspection/draw items.
• Review third-party inspection reports and resolve draw-related issues.
• Monitor active construction loan portfolio to identify negative trends and risks.
• Provide direction on loans in dispute or with lien filings in collaboration with Legal.
