Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineer II (NS) to serve as Senior Assistant Resident Engineer in the Marion area, McDowell County. You will administer highway construction contracts, supervise contractor work, and ensure safety and quality on projects.

Responsibilities include plan reading, civil engineering calculations, monthly/final estimates, and environmental compliance, with occasional travel and ability to work night/weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 3 years of progressively responsible experience or an equivalent combination.
• Knowledge of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
• Experience supervising Construction Engineering Inspection personnel.
• Proficiency in plan reading and highway engineering calculations.
• Experience in contract administration (estimates, monthly meetings, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Manage administration of highway construction contracts.
• Supervise contractor construction work.
• Inspect construction work to ensure compliance.
• Prepare monthly and final estimates and other records.
• Ensure environmental compliance during projects.
• Maintain documentation and submittals throughout contract life.
