Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Join the Mouse Genetics Core as a Research Technician! Mouse Genetics Core Facility (MGCF) enables MSK researchers to develop and use genetically engineered mouse (GEM) models to study cancer and other key biological processes. The Core provides expertise in genome engineering, embryology, and reproductive biology, offering services such as CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, embryonic stem cell manipulation, embryo micromanipulation, assisted reproduction, and strain preservation. MGCF also provides consultation and training to help investigators efficiently develop innovative mouse models that advance cancer research.

Role Overview

Conduct laboratory experiments supporting investigator- and PI-led research projects. Perform animal-based research, including animal handling, monitoring, administration of substances, surgeries, tissue harvesting, and imaging procedures. Carry out laboratory techniques such as cell/tissue culture, molecular biology assays including PCR, nucleic acid cloning and purification, and related research methods. Operate laboratory equipment and maintain experimental records. Analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings during laboratory meetings. Review scientific literature and learn new techniques to support ongoing research. Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies, and general laboratory operations. Participate in quality assurance activities and support regulatory and administrative tasks as needed.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
  • Strong foundation in biology, laboratory science, or a related field.
  • Interest in scientific research and approaching complex biological problems.
  • Experience with laboratory methods such as cell/tissue culture, molecular biology techniques including plasmid cloning, PCR and nucleic acid analyses, or related assays is valued.
  • Experience in or affinity for working with laboratory mice.
Core Skills
  • Ability to learn and master specialized laboratory techniques, particularly animal-based research and advanced microscopy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document experiments and research data.
  • Data analysis, reporting, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate findings to the research team.
  • Ability to review and interpret scientific literature to support ongoing research.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • A proactive, curious, and adaptable mindset with patience and commitment to developing specialized expertise.

  • Pay Range: $32.10 - $49.79
  • FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
