Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Research Specialist II to develop assays and protocols for PI approval and design experimental approaches for laboratory projects. You will perform a range of sophisticated assays and contribute to manuscripts and proposals.

You will troubleshoot independently, guide more junior staff, and help develop new techniques and instruments while supporting data presentation for publications. Location is the School of Medicine Campus with a 37.5-hour week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Two years of laboratory experience required; education may substitute for experience per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assigned laboratory projects.
  • Interpret results, read controls and evaluate data.
  • Work independently and make judgments and decisions.
  • Teach/train learners and new technicians in the laboratory.
  • Guide entry-level staff on day-to-day problems with research assays.
  • Contribute to protocol development, efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate in developing new techniques and instruments.
  • Apply published methods and discuss with PI.
  • Contribute to manuscripts and proposals.
  • Process data into figures for publications.
  • Order equipment and supplies; interface with vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Master's Degree (preferred)
