Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline; alternatively an M.S. with extensive relevant industry experience.
  • 5+ years of research experience with demonstrated scientific leadership in biotech, CRO, pharma, or related environment.
  • Hands-on experience with primary human cell isolation, culture, expansion, and characterization.
  • Experience with 3D bioprinting, tissue engineering, or multicellular model systems.
  • Experience designing and optimizing laboratory assays, including ADME‑Tox and/or efficacy assays.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills; ability to draw clear conclusions from complex datasets.
  • Experience with RNA sequencing or related molecular biology analyses.
  • Excellent scientific documentation and communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to lead projects, troubleshoot, and work independently in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation, optimization, and validation of 3D bioprinting protocols and bio-ink technologies.
  • Support transfer of proprietary tissue engineering tech into U.S.-based lab workflows.
  • Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to R&D teams.
  • Lead development and optimization of high-throughput screening campaigns and assays.

Yoh Life Sciences is hiring for a Senior Research Scientist to join an innovative biotechnology company in Philadelphia, PA. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced research scientist with expertise in tissue engineering, primary human cell culture, 3D bioprinting, and assay development to help establish and advance cutting‑edge precision medicine and preclinical research capabilities. This individual will provide scientific leadership across laboratory initiatives, drive assay and model development, and support the validation of research workflows for commercial client projects. The role offers the opportunity to help build and scale R&D capabilities within a rapidly growing biotechnology environment.

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Target Start Date: September 2026

Compensation: $100,000 – $115,000 annually

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation, optimization, and validation of advanced 3D bioprinting protocols, bio‑ink technologies, and complex cell culture methodologies.
  • Support the transfer of proprietary tissue engineering technologies and protocols into U.S.-based laboratory workflows.
  • Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to R&D and laboratory team members.
  • Lead the development and optimization of high‑throughput screening campaigns and research assays.
  • Design and develop novel multicellular tissue models to improve the physiological relevance and reproducibility of 3D micro‑tumor systems.
  • Integrate multiple cell populations, including fibroblasts, vascular cells, and immune cells, into advanced tissue models.
  • Develop and validate customized research workflows in support of commercial client projects.
  • Analyze and interpret complex experimental datasets to evaluate model performance, reproducibility, and biological relevance.
  • Oversee analysis of RNA sequencing and genomic fidelity data to assess correlations between engineered tissue models and original patient biopsy samples.
  • Troubleshoot experimental protocols and laboratory processes while identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and scientific performance.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional scientific and operational teams to advance platform development and client programs.
  • Maintain high standards for scientific documentation, data integrity, and laboratory quality.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline; alternatively, an M.S. with extensive relevant industry experience.
  • 5+ years of research experience with demonstrated scientific leadership within a biotechnology, CRO, pharmaceutical, cell therapy, or related environment.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with primary human cell isolation, culture, expansion, and characterization.
  • Demonstrated experience with 3D bioprinting, tissue engineering, or advanced multicellular model systems.
  • Experience designing, developing, and optimizing laboratory assays, including ADME‑Tox and/or efficacy assays.
  • Strong understanding of experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience with genomic analysis, RNA sequencing data, or related molecular biology applications.
  • Excellent scientific documentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, troubleshoot complex scientific challenges, and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with automated 3D bioprinting systems and/or microfluidic platforms.
  • Experience developing patient‑derived tumor models, organoids, or other huma‑relevant tissue models.
  • Experience incorporating immune, vascular, and stromal cell populations into multicellular models.
  • Experience working in a commercial biotechnology, CRO, or preclinical drug development environment.
  • Experience supporting technology transfer from an international or external R&D organization into a U.S.-based laboratory.
  • Familiarity with GxP, GLP, or other regulated research environments.
