Job summary

ICON is seeking a Senior Principal Scientist (Sr. Research Scientist) to lead and conduct research advancing clinical trials and therapeutic modalities in Lenexa, Kansas.

This onsite role requires strong method development in flow cytometry and spectral flow, with experience managing sponsor programs and client communications. The successful candidate will mentor junior scientists, design assays, validate methods, and ensure timely, GLP-compliant work.

Qualifications

  • Fluent English required.
  • Spectral flow cytometry experience.
  • 10–15 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • MS or PhD with applicable research in a relevant scientific field, preferred.
  • Presenter/Publisher in regulated relevant field, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead method development and validation for flow cytometry testing of preclinical and clinical specimens.
  • Oversee transfer of robust flow cytometry methods for bioanalytical testing.
  • Mentor junior scientists and advise on developed methods.
  • Review and approve data of other scientists.
  • Communicate status and results to management and sponsors.

Senior Research Scientist- Onsite, Lenexa, KS- Full-Time; Flow Cytometry

We are excited to be seeking a new Senior Principal Scientist (Sr. Research Scientist) at ICON in Lenexa, Kansas (KS). The Senior Principal Scientist (Sr. Research Scientist) will lead and conduct scientific research aimed at advancing clinical trials and developing innovative therapies. You will manage sponsor programs, shape assay strategies, and provide expertise for new and complex modalities.

We are seeking candidates with proven method development and Spectral Flow Cytometry experience.

What You Will Do:

The Senior Principal Scientist is responsible for method development and validation for testing preclinical and clinical specimens using flow cytometry, and ligand-binding analytical methods. In addition, you will oversee transfer robust flow cytometry methods for further for bioanalytical testing.

Desired Experience (flow cytometry experience required, ligand binding experience preferred):
  • Flow cytometry
    • Experience with Spectral Flow
    • Panel design
    • Gating strategy design
    • Usage of cytometry software (e.g. FACSDiva, FCS express)
  • Ligand binding assays
    • ELISA, ECLIA
    • PK, PD, and immunogenicity
    • Usage of relevant software (e.g. SoftMax Pro, Watson)
Method Development
  • Designs and executes experiments for method development
  • Develops new scientific approaches to method development and communicates these to the global science team
  • Mentors junior scientists and advises operation on developed methods
  • Reviews and approves data of other scientists
  • Communicates with team members and management regarding project status, purpose, scheduling, problems, etc.
  • Lead communication with clients regarding project status.
Scientific
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in all techniques where you perform your work.
  • Provide scientific input to management and BD about new technology investments and lines of service.
  • Own discussions regarding scientific results with sponsors, together with project manager
  • Promotes ICON utilizing scientific skills through scientific communication such as external publication of posters and journal articles.
  • Perform R&D projects
  • Training of technicians on technical aspects
  • Mentor and train staff on scientific topics
Quality and Timely Work Execution
  • Takes initiative in process development and SOP/WI writing
  • Legible, logical and reproducible documentation of all experimentation
  • Has a thorough understanding and complies with GLP and other appropriate regulations
  • Develops rugged and economical assays
  • Performs data review of other scientist’s work
Sample Analysis and Assay Validation
  • Provides key assay input to the validation and bioanalysis team(s) to ensure successful execution
  • Assay troubleshooting
  • May perform and document maintenance, trouble-shooting and repairs on advanced instrumentation with support of service engineers or other trained supervisory personnel.
Qualifications
  • Read, write and speak fluent English
  • Spectral flow cytometry experience
  • 10-15 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • MS or PhD with applicable research in a relevant scientific field, preferred
  • Presenter/Publisher in Regulated relevant field, preferred
