Job summary

NYS Institute for Basic Research in Staten Island seeks a Researcher Scientist 6/Geneticist to lead development and supervision of clinical genetic testing protocols for developmental disabilities. You will collaborate with clinicians and SCL to certify testing methods and establish new protocols in alignment with NYS DOH and OPWDD mission.

The role requires MD or PhD with at least six years of clinical/research experience, and eligibility for a Laboratory Director Qualification.

Qualifications

• MD or PhD with six years of clinical/research experience.
• Eligible for Certificate of Qualification to act as Laboratory Director in Genetic Testing.
• Experience supervising laboratory personnel and QA programs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise clinical genetic testing across preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.
• Oversee accessioning, logging, and data entry of samples.
• Perform DNA/RNA extractions and molecular assays per protocols.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and documentation per SOPs.
• Develop, validate, and certify new testing protocols.
