The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School, invites applications for a Senior Research Associate II position. The role focuses on deploying underwater image systems on fisheries surveys and developing AI/ML pipelines to estimate fish abundance.

The candidate will lead annotation library curation, model training, and evaluation, with emphasis on VIAME and open source AI/ML tools.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a field related to biological sciences.
• At least one year of work-related experience with fisheries-independent surveys and AI/ML methods to detect, track, and classify fishes in underwater video data.
• Experience with VIAME software and/or other open source software.
• Ability and desire to work as part of a collaborative team and support a culture of respect, inclusivity, and cooperation.
• Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Lead the curation of annotation libraries and oversee model training and evaluation.
• Focus on VIAME software and other open source AI/ML methodologies.
• Develop implementation plans and contribute to presentations, reports and peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
