Job summary

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami invites applications for a Senior Research Associate II to join the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Science Center, Advanced Technology Branch. The role centers on deploying underwater image systems and developing AI/ML pipelines to estimate fish abundance from field surveys.

Qualifications

• Masters or higher in a biological sciences field
• Experience with fisheries-independent surveys
• Experience developing/implementing AI/ML methods for fish detection/tracking
• Experience with VIAME or similar open source software

Responsibilities

• Lead curation of annotation libraries for fish video data
• Oversee model training and evaluation for AI/ML pipelines
• Develop implementation plans and contribute to presentations/reports/manuscripts
• Support deployment of underwater imaging systems in field surveys
