The Senior Research Administrator - Contracts will manage post-award activities, draft and negotiate research contracts, and support audits and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in research contracting.
  • Experience with sponsored research agreements, DUAs and CDAs.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing grant activity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers, finance, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage post-award activities for assigned projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate research contracts and related agreements.
  • Administer award setup in OneLink and budget uploads.
  • Support Uniform Guidance audits and SEFA reporting with Research Finance.
  • Provide training and post-award management support to researchers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and sponsor requirements.
  • Serve as liaison for external contractual communications.
  • Analyze regulations and provide guidance to staff.

Job description

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Senior Research Administrator - Contracts to join our Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Research Administration, the Senior Research Administrator - Contracts manages post-award activities related to MAPRI’s extramural and intramural grants and contracts portfolio. You will manage, draft, review, and negotiate research agreements, clinical trial agreements, subcontracts, and related supplemental agreements while supporting compliance, stewardship of awarded funds, and the administrative infrastructure that enables high-quality research.

You can expect to:
  • Manage post-award activities for assigned research projects, including award setup, budget revisions, progress reports, prior approval requests, and expenditure reviews.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate research contracts, clinical trial agreements, subcontracts, data use agreements, vendor agreements, and other supplemental agreements.
  • Administer award setup and maintenance in OneLink, including creating project codes and uploading budget information.
  • Partner with Research Finance to support Uniform Guidance audits, SEFA reporting, and indirect cost negotiation.
  • Provide training, presentations, and post-award management support to MAPMG physician researchers and other KPMAS researchers.
  • Ensure research administration policies and procedures comply with applicable federal, state, MAPMG, sponsor, and contractual requirements.
  • Analyze and interpret federal and state regulations and provide guidance to research scientists and staff regarding compliance and procedural matters.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in research contracting and post-award activities and act as the designated liaison for external contractual communications.
What is required:
  • Minimum education
  • Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Finance, Health Services Administration, Legal or Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
  • Master's degree and Certification of Research Administration (CRA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in research contracting.
  • Experience with sponsored research agreements and supplemental agreements, including DUAs and CDAs, required.
  • Expertise and knowledge of federal regulations, policies, procedures, and laws applicable to grant and contract activity.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in reviewing grants, contracts, and research agreements against established criteria.
  • Experience supporting post-award research administration, including budget revisions, reporting, award maintenance, and sponsor-required activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and analytical ability.
  • Ability to collaborate with research scientists, finance partners, external stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C. on an as needed basis.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $110,000 to $120,000, depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
