Job summary

Redtree Engineering is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead the design of process, plant, and building control systems for distributed generation and district energy projects. You will drive DCS/PLC architecture, I/O lists, and control narratives across EPC and DBB projects, interfacing with multi-discipline teams.

This 100% remote role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, client-facing responsibilities, and opportunities to mentor engineers while delivering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 6–8 years of relevant engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control system design principles and industry standards (ISA, ANSI, IEEE).
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience developing or reviewing P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets.
• Experience developing control logic and system narratives.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection and specification.
• Demonstrated analytical problem-solving with attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel to project sites ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of control system architecture, I/O lists, and logic diagrams for DCS/PLC systems.
• Develop instrumentation design deliverables, including data sheets and installation details.
• Create wiring/loop diagrams and interconnection drawings.
• Coordinate P&IDs with process and mechanical teams.
• Perform instrumentation engineering calculations and sizing for valves and sensors.
• Apply measurement tech and control strategies for process variables.
• Support process safety activities and incorporate findings into design.
• Assist procurement with technical specs, RFQs, and vendor reviews.
• Interface with control system vendors during FAT/SAT and field commissioning.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and review deliverables.
