Job summary

Cox is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer - Reliability Engineer in the United States. You will design and build resilient infrastructure, observability tooling, and operational systems to ensure high availability for millions of dealership transactions daily.

You will own projects end-to-end, split time between infrastructure-as-code, incident response, and mentoring. Expect to advance SRE practices, ship quality systems, and balance cost, performance, and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering, platform, or infrastructure experience.
• Strong coding in Python, Go, Java, or equivalents; write clean, testable code.
• AWS hands-on: EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Aurora, Lambda, VPCs, Athena.
• Terraform or equivalent infra-as-code experience.
• Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar).
• Debugging on Linux and Windows; troubleshoot complex systems via logs/metrics.
• System design thinking for scalable architectures and trade-offs.
• Availability for rotational on-call outside standard hours.
• Bachelor's degree in related discipline; 4 years' experience (or alternatives)

Responsibilities

• Design and implement resilience initiatives with redundancy, failover, and DR.
• Own IaC and manage 50+ AWS accounts with infrastructure patterns.
• Maintain system health to minimize downtime and ensure UX reliability.
• Evolve SRE standards and practices across the team.
• Build observability into systems: logging, metrics, tracing, alerts.
• Design dashboards and alerts; improve monitoring frameworks.
• Lead cost optimization through architectural improvements and resource use.
• Develop production systems, APIs, internal tools, and automation.
• Participate in on-call rotations; debug and resolve incidents.
• Conduct postmortems and drive systemic improvements.
• Develop operational runbooks and procedures.
