Job summary

Motional, a driverless technology company headquartered in Boston, is seeking a Release Engineer to join the new Release team responsible for customer-facing external software releases for our autonomous vehicle fleet. You will build, maintain, and automate pipelines to ensure the safety and reliability of software deployments.

You will collaborate across Autonomy, System Readiness & Performance, and Project Management, focusing on production-ready systems and scalable workflows.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Engineering or equivalent knowledge.
• Strong proficiency in Git, Python; advanced experience with CI/CD infrastructure (GitLab CI, Jenkins).
• Experience in the autonomous driving sector, robotics, or complex software release environments.
• Collaborative problem-solving and ability to communicate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Operational mindset focused on building production-ready systems and improving engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Release gating & validation: implement quality gates to ensure only validated code reaches release branches.
• Cross-functional support: partner with Autonomy, System Readiness & Performance, and Project Manager teams for release-related inquiries.
• Branching & governance: maintain clean branching models to ensure release isolation and stability.
• Data-driven optimization: contribute to release metrics and identify bottlenecks to improve velocity.
• Automation & tooling: write and maintain automation scripts to enforce release quality and compatibility across stacks.
