Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel in Austin, TX to provide expert legal guidance across a broad range of issues. You will work closely with Regulatory teams, draft and negotiate contracts, manage risks, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

You will represent AEP Texas in regulatory proceedings, advise on business initiatives, and lead major project negotiations while coordinating with external counsel when needed.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited US law school.
• Active license to practice law in TX.
• 7+ years of legal experience, preferably in energy sector.
• Experience in regulatory proceedings before PUC/FERC and state commissions.

Responsibilities

• Represent AEP Texas in proceedings before the Public Utility Commission.
• Provide strategic legal advice on business initiatives.
• Lead contract negotiations for major projects and provide strategic legal guidance.
• Oversee compliance programs with agencies such as FERC and state public utility commissions.
• Represent regulated subsidiaries in proceedings before federal or state regulatory agencies.
• Manage litigation processes and coordinate with outside counsel on significant disputes.
• Develop training and compliance programs for employees related to industry regulations.
