Job summary

Manchester Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center is seeking an energetic Recreation Therapy Assistant to join on a per diem basis. This role focuses on enriching daily life for older adults through engaging activities tailored to varying abilities, with dementia-friendly options and individualized sessions.

The position emphasizes compassionate, creative programming, teamwork with the interdisciplinary staff, and flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in recreation, healthcare, senior living, dementia-care, or customer-service preferred.
• Compassionate, patient, enthusiastic, and comfortable with older adults.
• Creative and able to engage residents with different abilities.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated team player who can also work independently.
• Ability to safely assist with transporting residents.
• Flexible per diem schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing recreational programs for residents with varying interests, abilities, and clinical needs.
• Lead group activities to promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, physical participation, and emotional well-being.
• Provide programming for residents with dementia and cognitive impairments.
• Conduct individualized one-on-one activities and sensory stimulation.
• Encourage residents to participate based on preferences and abilities.
• Transport residents to activity areas and events.
• Observe and report participation, progress, preferences, and concerns to the Recreation Director and interdisciplinary team.
• Assist with events, holidays, and community outings.
