Job summary

City of Carlsbad is seeking a part-time Senior Recreation Leader for Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. The role covers park operations, visitor services, and support for programming and events, including tours and volunteer coordination.

The position requires outdoor work, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a flexible schedule with some evening/weekend shifts. Prior history in customer service and public speaking is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma, preferably supplemented by college level courses in recreation, education, history, anthropology, or a related field.
• Background check and TB test
• CPR and first aid certification or ability to obtain
• Experience working with adults and children
• Must have a flexible schedule; must attend mandatory meetings/trainings; must provide own transportation; must have valid California State Driver’s License
• Person hired must wear standard apparel provided by the Parks & Recreation Department

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relations with park guests, volunteers and contracted vendors
• Provide a variety of administrative and specialized support to activity programming
• Provide clerical and specialized support of recreational programs
• Assist in the preparation of emails, reports, newsletters and data entry
• Meet and communicate with instructors, staff, presenters and the public regarding programs, rentals and visitor information
• Assist in the planning, organizing and marketing of activities; participate in staff meetings
• Assist with events; maintain park facilities
• Set up and break-down for camps, classes, programs and special events
• Lead guided walking tours of Leo Carrillo Ranch for diverse audiences of adults and children
