Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Eastern State Hospital, seeks a Recreation Specialist 4 to plan and direct a comprehensive recreation program for patients. You will supervise a team of Recreation & Athletics Specialists, lead groups when needed, and partner with clinical staff to tailor activities to each patient’s care and rehabilitation goals.

You’ll manage day-to-day operations, build schedules, hire/train staff, assess equipment needs, and ensure activities match

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation or equivalent, or related field with a focus on recreation.
• Three years of professional recreation experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all qualifications except legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and coordinate recreation activities for patients with diverse needs.
• Supervise staff, assign work, and lead groups when needed.
• Interview applicants and assist in hiring decisions for recreation roles.
• Develop schedules, train staff, and evaluate equipment needs.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to align activities with treatment goals.
