Northwell Health is seeking a Recreational Therapist (CTRS) for a full-time role in New York, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. You will plan, implement, and coordinate recreational activities for patients admitted to the Unit, guiding clinical staff and students to promote quality of life and independence.

The role requires a Bachelor's Degree and CTRS certification, with 3–5 years of relevant experience. You will document patient progress and collaborate with the care team to ensure comprehensive therapy

Responsibilities

  • Provides input for development of new recreational programs.
  • Guides the recreation therapy staff.

  • Develops individual recreational regimens for residents; documents events.
  • Oversees recreational activities to enhance quality of life for residents and rehabilitative patients.
  • Coordinates staff and programs to meet resident needs without interruption.
  • Manages ordering, maintenance and storage of recreational supplies.
  • Plans and provides leisure educational activities.
  • Assists patients in acquiring skills for independent leisure and social activities; assists in adjustment to community and decision-making regarding free time.

Job Description

Plans, implements and coordinates activities and interventions for the development, maintenance and expression of appropriate social and leisure lifestyles of patients admitted to the Unit. Performs a variety of duties involved in carrying out recreation programs in assigned areas and assists in planning programs. Provides guidance to the clinical Recreational staff and students.

Job Responsibility
  • Provides input for development of new programs for recreational therapy services.
  • Guides the recreation therapy staff.
  • Assists in the training of other recreation staff and volunteers.
  • Develops an individual recreational regimen for each resident; provides documentation of all events that occur during the regimen.
  • Performs and assists in overseeing the necessary recreational activities to enhance the quality of life for residents and rehabilitative patients.
  • Coordinates staff and programs to assure resident needs are met without interruption.
  • Ensures ordering, maintenance and storage of recreational supplies as appropriate.
  • Plans and provides leisure educational activities.
  • Assists the patient in acquiring the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for independent leisure and social activities; adjustment in community; decision‑making ability, and appropriate use of free time.

Job Qualification
  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Current Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
