King Edward VII's Hospital is seeking a Senior Receptionist to lead the front-of-house team and ensure efficient, courteous patient service at the hospital's reception.

You will oversee check-ins, appointments, and inquiries, while training staff and maintaining a welcoming reception area. This role requires leadership, healthcare awareness, and the ability to work across shifts in a busy hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a receptionist or front-of-house role, preferably in healthcare.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to supervise reception staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly, welcoming approach and ability to handle busy periods calmly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the reception team to ensure high standards of service are consistently maintained.
  • Greet patients, visitors, and staff in a friendly, professional manner to create a welcoming environment.
  • Manage patient check-ins, appointments, and enquiries to ensure smooth flow and minimal wait times.
  • Oversee scheduling and coverage for reception to ensure front desk is adequately staffed.
  • Handle issues or complaints swiftly and diplomatically to resolve concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organised reception area and manage administrative duties such as answering phones.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care and services.
  • Support Front of House Supervisor in training and developing the reception team.
  • Adhere to hospital policies to maintain a safe, compliant working environment.
  • Provide regular updates to management on front-of-house operations.

Location: King Edward VII's Hospital, 5-10 Beaumont Street, Marylebone, London W1G 6AA

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time.

Hours: Permanent (37.5hrs) Shifts are Monday to Sunday covering various shifts

Job Description

To ensure all reception and administrative activities in the Hospital are carried out efficiently and effectively. To contribute as a support network in providing outstanding customer service to our customers (adults and children) every time they touch base with us.

You'll Help Us Make Health Happen By

  • Lead and supervise the reception team to ensure high standards of service are consistently maintained.
  • Greet patients, visitors, and staff in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner to create a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Manage patient check-ins, appointments, and enquiries efficiently to ensure smooth patient flow and minimise wait times.
  • Oversee scheduling and coverage for the reception team to guarantee that the front desk is always adequately staffed.
  • Handle issues or complaints swiftly and diplomatically to ensure all concerns are resolved professionally, enhancing patient and visitor satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming reception area to create a professional and pleasant first impression for patients and visitors.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including answering phones and managing mail to support the efficient operation of the hospital's front desk and administrative functions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of patient care and services across the hospital.
  • Support the Front of House Supervisor in training and developing the reception team to enhance their skills and ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Provide regular updates to management to keep them informed of front-of-house operations and any arising issues.
Key Skills / Qualifications Needed For This Role
  • Previous experience in a similar receptionist or front-of-house role, ideally in a healthcare setting, to bring relevant knowledge and ensure seamless integration into the role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to effectively supervise and motivate the reception team, ensuring high levels of performance.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Deliver an outstanding customer service by being friendly and welcoming
  • Well organised, reliable and have a proactive attitude
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining calm and professionalism, particularly during peak times.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (desirable)
