Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, and sustain real-time, high-availability safety-critical software for national airspace. The role involves leadership, mentoring, system integration, and work with low-level communications and Linux environments.

The position offers a 50% hybrid schedule with office presence in select locations and opportunities to influence technical direction across multiple programs and teams.

Qualifications

• Must have 8–12 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 6–10 years with a Master’s degree.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Strong object-oriented programming experience in C and/or C++.
• Experience developing real-time, multi-threaded, high-availability systems.
• Proficiency with Linux environments (Red Hat), virtual machines, and hypervisors.
• Experience with low-level communications protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP).
• Experience with hardware or complex system integration and lifecycle concepts.
• Experience with source control and configuration management tools.
• Solid understanding of modern software development principles and best practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software for real-time, high-availability systems.
• Lead software development activities and collaborate within an engineering team.
• Analyze complex system requirements and translate them into maintainable software designs.
• Apply software engineering principles to ensure reliability, fault tolerance, reusability, and maintainability.
• Mentor and lead junior developers; influence technical direction and processes.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, planning, sprint reviews).
• Develop, tune, document, and deploy automation scripts across environments.
• Promote code reuse and cross-program collaboration; sustain development practices.
• Support system integration activities, including hardware and low-level interfaces.
