General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems in San Diego, CA seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead software and firmware architecture for real-time embedded, mission-critical systems, and to mentor junior engineers.

Define end-to-end architectures, allocate functionality between hardware, firmware and software, and drive verification, validation, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) efforts across defense and aerospace programs.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelors, masters, or PhD in engineering with progressive experience.
• Significant experience architecting software/firmware for real-time embedded or mission-critical systems.
• Strong understanding of both high-level and low-level system integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead software/firmware systems engineering activities for complex, real-time embedded and mission-critical systems.
• Serve as the software/firmware system architect, defining end-to-end architectures and allocating functionality between hardware, firmware, and software.
• Develop and manage systems engineering artifacts related to software/firmware, including requirements, use cases, interface control documents, data definitions, architecture descriptions, verification and validation plans.
• Use MBSE and SysML/UML to capture and decompose system requirements and develop system models.
• Provide technical guidance to systems engineering staff and mentor junior engineers; present at reviews.
• Lead the definition and creation of software/firmware architecture documentation for the program.
