Job summary

RTX BBN Technologies in Middletown, RI is seeking a Principal Software Engineer with eight+ years of real-time embedded C/C++ experience to join our Physical Sciences & Systems team. You will design, develop, and integrate high‑performance embedded software across heterogeneous platforms and RTOS, interfacing with custom hardware and sensors for DoD programs.

You will collaborate with engineers across disciplines, mentor staff, support design reviews, and travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

Typically requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior experience.
Active and transferable Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance is required on day one.
Experience in at least two of: Embedded C/C++ Software, High Performance Computer Systems, Embedded Real-Time Sensors and Control Applications, Software Architecture Design and Implementation.
Experience using embedded Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Green Hills, Integrity, Wind River VxWorks, Linux, etc.
Experience developing complex systems involving hardware, firmware, and software integration.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and integrate high-performance embedded real-time software for multi-processor/FPGA systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test and analyze performance.
Integrate components into larger systems for real-world testing and deployment.
Mentor junior staff and participate in design reviews.
Support proposals and early design reviews.
