Job summary

Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) seeks a senior investigator/engineer to lead railroad-related investigations, reviews, and expert witness activities across national client engagements.

You will manage field inspections, prepare technical reports, and contribute to business development. The role requires more than 10 years of railway engineering experience, FRA regulatory knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required; mechanical or civil engineering preferred; Master's degree a plus.
  • Over 10 years of experience performing engineering-related investigations, track material inspections, report writing, and familiarity with railroad disciplines.
  • Hands-on FRA regulatory compliance experience with 49 CFR Parts 200-299.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews project proposals and plans, including time frame, funding, procedures, staffing, and resources.
  • Directs and coordinates project activities to ensure progress within schedule and budget.
  • Performs field inspections of derailments/rail incidents, cars, locomotives, and railway facilities.
  • Prepares technical, project-related reports for clients and presentations for meetings and conferences.
  • Mentors earlier-career employees and contributes to business development activities.
