Job description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Senior Rackets Investigator in its Investigation Bureau. This is a sworn police officer position requiring certification on the NYS DCJS Police registry, completion of police academy training in New York State, and passing a background check to carry a firearm.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Conducting, managing, and updating criminal investigations, focusing on counterterrorism, cyber-crime, terrorism, and related activities.
  2. Performing surveillance, undercover operations, and quality assurance checks.
  3. Reviewing complex facts, preparing reports, executing search warrants, and making arrests.
  4. Working undercover, collaborating with law enforcement agencies, and managing investigations.
  5. Interviewing witnesses and subjects, testifying in court, and performing field visits.
  6. Using databases for background checks and information gathering.
  7. Participating in special projects and working flexible hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Firearms qualification and valid NYS police officer certification or eligibility.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license.
  • Pass medical, drug, psychological exams, and background check.
  • U.S. citizenship as per NY Public Officers Law 2, 3-B.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Law enforcement or criminal justice experience, especially in terrorism investigations.
  • Experience with victims and witnesses of sensitive cases.
  • Knowledge of investigative tools like wiretap equipment and GPS devices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects, and work under pressure.
  • Experience as a Detective Squad, O.C.I.D., or Task Force Officer with 1-2 years in investigative roles.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and overseas and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time investigative experience, including at least one year in rackets or police investigative work.
