Job summary

A leading automotive company is seeking an experienced Race Engineer to manage the engineering operations of a car and driver in international racing events. The role involves preparing performance plans, collaborating with Engineering Workgroups on tool development, and optimizing performance strategies. The ideal candidate has a degree, proven experience in race engineering, and strong skills in data analysis software. A bilingual proficiency in German and English is advantageous. Flexibility to travel is required and mobile working may be arranged.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering operations of one car and driver at events.
  • Prepare and deliver performance plans for races.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Workgroups for performance improvement.
  • Share information and promote development of the Engineering Workgroup.
  • Report to the Program Manager and Engineering Group.
  • Manage daily engineering operations on the car and crew with the Crew Chief.
  • Work independently and with the team to deliver performance projects for races/tests.
  • Collaborate with/lead Workgroups for soft-tools and hard-tools to improve performance across programs.

Job description

  • Responsibility for managing the engineering of one car and driver at all events in international racing
  • Prepare and deliver a performance plan for each race and test event
  • Extract the maximum performance from the car and driver at each event
  • Share information and proactively promote the development of the Engineering Workgroup
  • Report to the Program Manager and as well as to the Engineering Group
  • Manage the daily engineering operations on his car including those of his car-crew in conjunction with the Crew Chief
  • Work independently and within a team group to define and deliver performance projects for races and tests events
  • Collaborate with and/or lead Engineering Workgroups dedicated to development of soft-tools (eg. simulation and strategy tools) and hard-tools (eg. pit-equipment optimization, driver simulator) for improving performance of car and team (transversally across the different sporting programs)
Your profile
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Proven high level Race Engineering and Performance Engineering experience
  • Strong Science, Physics and Data driven background and work ethic
  • Good communications skills with a strong requirement to work effectively within a team to develop, progress and adopt performance concepts
  • Work calmly, professionally and make good decisions within tight deadlines and high-pressure environments
  • Strong computer skills in data analysis software (Pi Toolbox ideally), MS Office & VBA, Matlab a plus
  • Eligible to work in Germany, Flexibility for travelling
  • German language would be beneficial, good English language is essential
