Ontogen Medtech seeks a Sr R&D Technician to join its product development team to assist with activities related to the development of innovative medical device products in Chicagoland, IL. We are seeking someone with demonstrated experience in the medical device field who is comfortable with many aspects of hands-on technical work.
Responsibilities may include:
- Fabricate, assemble, modify, and troubleshoot medical device prototypes, test fixtures, and development equipment.
- Execute bench testing, characterization testing, simulated-use studies, and design verification activities according to approved protocols or engineering instructions.
- Accurately document test methods, results, observations, deviations, and conclusions.
- Assist engineers with prototype iteration, design evaluation, root-cause investigation, and problem-solving.
- Develop and refine assembly methods, manufacturing processes, test methods, and work instructions.
- Support the transition of products from development into pilot production and commercial manufacturing.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and prototyping equipment.
- Perform electronics assembly activities such as soldering, wire termination, connector assembly, and basic PCB programming.
- Prepare and operate 3D printers, perform routine printer maintenance, and complete post-processing of printed components.
- Use hand tools, power tools, measurement equipment, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain organized project materials, components, tools, equipment, and laboratory workspaces.
- Support component sourcing, inventory management, and coordination with outside vendors.
- Work in accordance with Ontogen’s quality system, safety procedures, and applicable medical device development requirements.
- Coordinate assigned technical workstreams, communicate progress and risks, and ensure assigned activities are completed on schedule.
- Collaborate effectively across engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and project-management functions.
- Perform other technical and project-support activities as needed.
At minimum, candidates will have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent;
- 5+ years Medical Device / R&D / laboratory experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to fabricate, assemble, test, and troubleshoot mechanical or electromechanical products.
- Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, test protocols, assembly instructions, and technical procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
Additionally, the following are highly desirable:
- an associate degree, technical certification, or relevant vocational training
- Expertise with electronics assembly (soldering, wire termination, PCB programming, etc.)
- Expertise with 3D printing, (print job prep & execution, printer maintenance and support, etc.)
