Perform and support a variety of development and engineering activities, which mainly focus on device's design, prototyping, fabrication, product requirements and verification testing. Will work directly with other R&D technicians and R&D engineers to complete various assignments. Assists engineers in developing methods and procedures to control or improve product design processes.
Job Summary
Responsibilities:
- Builds prototypes devices in accordance with engineering instructions, or drawings and specifications.
- Assists with development of manufacturing processes and corresponding design transfer to production.
- Supports R&D catheter assembly, manufacturing, and prototyping.
- Performs assembly and failure analysis using laboratory microscopes.
- Participate in the design and development of new concepts.
- Interact with Engineers to understand product requirements.
- Sets up and operates manufacturing and/or test equipment. Records data with limited supervision.
- Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks
- Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Plans and performs tests and evaluations of systems equipment or components.
- Conduct tests of completed units or components under operational conditions to investigate designs or to obtain data for development and standardization.
- Partners with engineering staff on project needs (e.g., supports test method development)
- Documents all analysis and testing completed for R&D and new product development projects working closely with the cognizant engineer. Records and analyzes test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data.
- Assist engineers with product and process design, development, and optimization. Partners with engineers to design and assemble functional prototypes and provide feedback on assembly process and design.
- Assist with the development of new and existing test protocols.
- Independently identifies processes improvements, generates ideas and qualifies through builds and testing.
- Lead and mentor other technicians to reach departmental and company objectives.
Qualifications:
- High School or equivalent with five or more years’ experience as R&D technician (or relevant experience)
- 5+ years development experience in medical device/clinical environment.
- Hands-on experience in medical device manufacturing /production environment or prototyping experience.
- Ability to quickly interpret and comprehend engineering drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of catheters and microscopes. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Use of measurement devices.
- Use of required safety equipment when performing lab work.
- The candidate should have team building skills, organizational skills, personal skills, and a strong follow-through “can do” attitude.
- Monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Must also verbally communicate work to engineers and other staff in a clearly understood, organized and logical manner.
- Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and laboratory practices.
