Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Senior/Principal R&D Mechanical Engineer to lead product realization for space hardware onsite. You will translate concepts into detailed designs, manage build-to-print components, and coordinate with suppliers across the full product lifecycle from concept to test.

The role emphasizes mechanics design, CAD modeling, and rigorous qualification processes in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5 years of directly relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.
• Graduate degree with independent research project is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for space payloads.
• Develop and interpret mechanical drawings, tolerances, and CAD models.
• Support fabrication, assembly, inspection, qualification, and testing of flight hardware.
• Manage mechanical suppliers, including supplier selection, development, performance, quality, and delivery.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure product realization.
