Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, seeks an R&D Mechanical Engineer to lead modeling and experimental research on solar thermal systems. You will develop models for energy transport, storage, and systems integration, and perform validation tests from bench to demonstration scale.

Collaboration with PIs and industry partners is essential, with opportunities in AI, digital engineering, and system design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and engineering or scientific experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to research, design, or develop structures, instruments, machines, processes, or systems and forecast behavior under operating conditions.
• Prepare and analyze models and simulations of solar thermal systems and related components.
• Plan, conceive, conduct, and manage research projects for sponsors and customers.
• Work with a team to perform simulation and hardware validation testing with appropriate platforms.
• Explore thermodynamic cycle analysis, thermal-hydraulic and mechanical design, and AI-enabled tools as applicable.
