Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the National Solar Thermal Test Facility. You will model existing and novel thermal systems for process heat and power, and work closely with technologists on projects around the facility.

Responsibilities include on-site experiments, collaboration with site engineers, and solving challenging problems while adhering to a 30–40 hour weekly schedule.

Qualifications

• Earned bachelor's degree.
• Currently enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Able to work up to 30 hours/week during the academic year and up to 40 hours/week in summer.
• U.S. citizens, permanent residents, asylees, or refugees in the U.S.
• On-site work requirement.

Responsibilities

• Model existing and novel thermal storage systems against provided criteria.
• Support on-site and outdoor experiments at the site.
• Collaborate with peers and site engineers to perform critical modeling work.
• Tackle challenging problems and projects.
