Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern Year Round to support staff in developing and analyzing advanced thermal energy systems at the National Solar Thermal Test Facility. You will model both existing and new thermal systems for process heat and power applications and work with technologists on hands‑on projects around the facility.

Expect to spend time modeling storage systems, supporting on-site experiments, and collaborating with site engineers

Qualifications

• Earned bachelor’s degree.
• Currently enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program.
• Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0.
• Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
• U.S. citizens, permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Model existing and novel thermal storage systems against provided criteria.
• Support onsite and outdoor experiments at the NSTTF site.
• Collaborate with peers and site engineers on critical modeling work.
• Tackle challenging problems and projects.
