Job summary

FANUC America Corporation is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to lead embedded software development for the robot controller system, including new feature development and legacy support. The role involves working with C, KAREL, and various web technologies in a real-time OS environment.

You will adhere to coding standards, design and implement software enhancements, update documentation, and develop tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum ten years of experience in an embedded software development role.
• Strong knowledge of embedded C and KAREL is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software within a real-time OS environment covering file systems, user program execution, multi-CPU/core architectures.
• Follow coding standards to deliver clean, maintainable code and update design/engineering documentation.
• Design and implement software features and enhancements; develop tests and test procedures.
• Coordinate with Product Information for publication of product documentation.
• Resolve field-reported problems, including complex or unique cases.
• Communicate with FANUC Japan and other engineers on product development and support.
• Present proposed software feature concepts to sales and select customers.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns on software development practices.

Who You Are

We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer responsible for the development of embedded software for FANUC’s robot controller system, including development for new features and support for legacy products. The size and complexity of assigned tasks will vary, and developers must be able to handle multiple assignments efficiently. These are systems built from embedded ‘C’, KAREL, and various other web technologies.

How It's Done

• Development of embedded software within a real-time operating system environment in the following areas:
  • File systems
  • User Program execution environment
  • Multi CPU and Multi Core architecture
  • User Interface technologies (HTML5, JavaScript, COMET, REST, WebGL)
  • Memory management
  • System logging/profiling
  • System and network security
• Adherence to established coding standards to produce clean, clear, well-documented, and easily-maintained code
• Specification, design, and implementation of software developments or software enhancements to existing products
• Updating and modifying design and engineering documentation as required for assigned developments
• Development and implementation of software tests and test procedures
• Development of software feature documentation and coordination with the Product Information group in the publication of product documentation
• Resolution of field reported problems, typically of a difficult or unique nature
• Communication with FANUC Japan and other engineering staff on product development and customer support related issues
• Presentation of a proposed software feature concept to selling division and select customers
• Mentoring of junior engineering staff and software development interns

What You Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Minimum ten years of experience in an embedded software development role

What Would Be Even Better

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
• Strong FANUC robot experience including KAREL
• Experience with source control such as ClearCase and Git
• Robotic Application experience
