Job summary

MiniMed, a leader in CGM technology, seeks a qualified engineer to lead failure analysis across sensor development. You will work with R&D, regulatory, quality, and clinical teams to identify root causes and drive improvements in device reliability and manufacturability.

Required is a biomedical/chemical engineering background with 4+ years of experience, and knowledge of in‑vitro/in‑vivo testing for subcutaneous devices. This role supports a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelors degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
• Masters of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related Engineering field with 5+ years of professional experience.
• Medical Device Industry Experience.
• Experience in product design and development in an R&D environment.
• Experience in mechanical and/or electrochemical systems.
• Direct experience in characterization, design of experiments and data analysis methodologies (T-test, ANOVA and significance testing at a minimum)
• Knowledge about in‑vitro and in‑vivo testing of subcutaneous medical devices.

About the Role

This position is within the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Sensor R&D team. In this role, you will be supporting the development of next generation CGM products and sustaining R&D. You will be responsible for leading the Failure Analysis efforts throughout different phases of sensor product development while contributing towards sustaining, continuous improvement, and development activities. In this role, the individual will be interfacing with other R&D functions, regulatory, quality, reliability, and clinical teams as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Troubleshooting and identifying the root cause of failures in complex microfabricated electrochemical bio-sensors
• Develop, record, and perform various failure analyses on systems and components to determine failure mechanisms and ultimately root causes of failure
• Write formal analysis reports, resulting in clear and accurate messaging about analysis findings to both the submitter and a broader audience
• Use working knowledge of failure modes of products to work with technicians and other R&D engineers to assess existing and potential failures
• Work with R&D and quality engineers to identify opportunities for improvements in product quality, reliability, manufacturability, and functionality
• Initiates and leads the efforts on implementing improvements identified as a part of continuous improvement
• Obtain, interpret, and utilize data from formal test, complaint handling, and other document repositories
• Develop new test methodologies to aid in the failure analysis of components and products
• Identify and research component & system failures in the early stages of product development to improve product quality and reliability
• Conduct hands‑on lab work, define failure analysis strategy, and recommend corrective actions/fixes to failures at different phases of product development
• Development of analytical methodologies and equipment acquisitions to ensure strategic failure analysis capabilities for future technologies and products
• Contribute to development of continuous glucose monitoring subsystems as relevant to the group goals.

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$87,000.00 - $149,000.00
• For roles located in California, Seattle WA, Washington DC, Boston MA, and New York City, the salary range is $97,000.00 - $165,000.00 USD.
• Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, certifications, skills, market conditions, internal equity, and geographic location.
• Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
• This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Short Term Incentive (STI).
