Job summary

MiniMed in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for our Sustaining team. You will own circuit-level troubleshooting, design improvements, and fail-safe tests to ensure reliability of life‑changing diabetes devices.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with manufacturing partners, and drive root-cause investigations in a regulated medical device environment, contributing to safer, more reliable products.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or 5+ years with advanced degree.
  • Experience with regulated medical devices and FDA/ISO standards is preferred.

About the Role

As a Principal Electrical Engineer in our Sustaining team, you’ll be immersed in the heart of our devices—diving into circuit boards, analyzing intricate electronic systems, and solving challenging problems that directly impact patient lives. Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Lead and mentor Jr Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues at the circuit level, using advanced troubleshooting and test methodologies Apply rigorous technical judgment to investigate and determine root causes of both field‑reported product issues and manufacturing challenges. Lead the development of sophisticated electrical test systems for failure analysis, root cause investigations, and ongoing product improvement. Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, and engineering functions to resolve manufacturing issues and facilitate transition of activities to operations. Collaborate with cross‑functional experts and contract manufacturers, ensuring technical objectives are met and innovative solutions are executed. Identify and implement alternate source electronic component solutions and/or circuit design changes to address design improvement, obsolescence, and supply chain challenges for released Diabetes products. Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including FDA QSR and ISO 13485

Must Have

Minimum Requirements Requires a Baccalaureate degree Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have
  • Proven hands‑on expertise in troubleshooting, testing, and debugging of electrical systems and circuit boards
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
  • Strong background in electrical design, component selection, and sustaining engineering for regulated products
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and managing supplier relationships
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
  • Experience in product development within regulated industries such as medical device, defense, or automotive
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (FDA QSR, ISO 13485)
  • Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as engineering reports, test plans, and procedures

PR) locations (USD):$109,000.00 - $185,000.00 For roles located in California, Seattle WA, Washington DC, Boston MA, and New York City, the salary range is $121,000 - $205,000 USD. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, certifications, skills, market conditions, internal equity, and geographic location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Short Term Incentive (STI). At MiniMed, we are committed to supporting the well‑being and financial security of our employees.
