Job summary

Atom Computing, based in Berkeley, CA, seeks a Senior Quantum Theorist to lead theoretical and computational projects for next-generation neutral-atom quantum computers. You will model system behavior, improve calibration, and mentor junior staff, reporting to the Quantum Theory Manager in the Applications & Theory department.

You will develop atomic physics simulations, collaborate with Quantum Engineering and AMO Theory teams, and push innovations in machine performance and software design

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of post-PhD experience in research or the quantum industry.
• Extensive experience with scientific, high-performance, or quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent and collaborative theoretical and computational projects driving neutral atom quantum computer development.
• Drive atomic physics simulations architecture, translating into high-quality software.
• Identify new research directions and AI-assisted approaches to accelerate work.
• Collaborate with Quantum Engineering, QEC Theory, and AMO Theory teams on modeling and noise analyses.
• Mentor junior AMO Theorists and set best practices for the team.
• Write clean, well-tested, documented code in Python, Julia, or C++.
