Job summary
Atom Computing, based in Berkeley, CA, seeks a Senior Quantum Theorist to lead theory and simulations for neutral-atom quantum computers. You will work with theorists and experimentalists, mentoring junior staff and setting technical direction within Applications & Theory.
You will develop high-quality software to model systems, explore new research directions, and support design decisions with AI-augmented methods.
Qualifications
- PhD in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of post-PhD experience in research or the quantum industry.
- Extensive experience with scientific, high-performance, or quantum computing.
Responsibilities
- Lead independent and collaborative theoretical and computational projects that drive understanding of neutral atom quantum computers.
- Drive the development of atomic physics simulations and translate them into maintainable software.
- Identify new research directions and AI-assisted methods to accelerate work.
- Collaborate with Quantum Engineering, QEC Theory, and AMO Theory teams to model results and inform design.
- Mentor junior AMO Theorists and set best practices for theoretical work.
- Write clean, well-tested code in Python, Julia, or C++.
