Job summary

Fulkers Bailey Russell is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Private Sector team. You will lead the commercial management on a range of complex, large-scale projects, from inception to completion, across data centres, defence, office, retail and more.

The role requires strong leadership, accurate cost control, procurement oversight, and the ability to mentor junior staff. You will work closely with project teams to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget while

Qualifications

  • Chartered accreditation or equivalent and proven experience in construction.
  • Ability to lead large complex projects through full lifecycle.
  • Strong cost management, procurement and value engineering knowledge.
  • Mentor and develop junior surveyors and assistants.
  • Experience with client-facing reporting and value management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead production and management of cost plans, cash flows, and benchmarking.
  • Oversee procurement, tender documentation, and contract negotiations.
  • Administer contracts and act as key client liaison pre- and post-contract.
  • Manage interim valuations, variations, final accounts and dispute resolution.
  • Maintain QA standards and health & safety across projects.
  • Support business development and maintain client relationships.
  • Mentor Assistant and Quantity Surveyors and develop team skills.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic and driven construction consultancy, working with our Private Sector team across an exciting range of complex and large scale projects – lead in the commercial management across a wide variety of projects, including data centres, defence, office, retail and more.

What does the role involve?

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be taking the commercial lead in the delivery of projects, from inception to completion. The role involves working with the Project Team to allow projects to be delivered safely on time and to budget whilst ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and supporting the development of Assistants and Surveyors.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the production and management of cost plans, life cycle costing, cash flow forecasts and benchmarking using Cost‑X, BIM, and relevant data sources
  • Oversee procurement activities, including preparation of tender documentation, bills of quantities, pricing documents, procurement reports, and managing the full tender and evaluation process
  • Manage contract negotiations, prepare and collate contract documents, and act as a key client liaison throughout pre‑ and post‑contract stages
  • Administer contracts as Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent, including issuing instructions, managing snagging, overseeing practical completion, and post‑contract duties
  • Manage post‑contract responsibilities such as interim valuations, cost reporting, change control, evaluation of variations, final accounts, and dispute resolution
  • Contribute to and oversee risk registers, value engineering, and value management reporting
  • Support the Associate Director in fee bids, resource and fee management, reporting, and maintaining client relationships
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Assistant and Quantity Surveyors
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates to internal systems and sign‑off of invoices
  • Maintain quality assurance standards and best practice procedures across all projects
  • Uphold health and safety standards and support environmental and social impact
  • Carry out additional duties in line with the role as required
Qualifications & Skills
  • Ideally Chartered accreditation with previous experience in a similar discipline within the construction industry
  • Ability to deliver larger and more complex projects through the whole project lifecycle
  • Excellent experience‑based technical/project knowledge
  • Ability to delegate tasks to others within the team and support their work
  • Support junior members of the team with mentoring and development
  • Development of leadership and management skills
  • Generate new work through management of client relations
  • Ability to analyse projects and report performance to line manager
  • Excellent knowledge of internal systems and processes to advise and guide others
  • Excellent knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
