Position Summary:
Responsible for inspection of various semi-complex parts, tools, and instruments for conformance to specifications and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date acceptance and rejection records and/or certifications systems as required by the applicable specifications.
- Determine acceptance or rejection after inspection of parts, tools, and instruments. Identify defective conditions and test failures and prepare all appropriate documentation.
- Perform semi-complex inspection of components and shelf-life items, using a variety of measuring instruments to determine acceptability or rejection of parts and/or parts finish.
- Inspect assembled products using various measuring and test equipment to determine acceptability or rejection.
- Send samples out for periodic testing to outside laboratories.
- Develop inspection set-ups to check sample parts, forgings, and castings. Check tool and jig layouts.
- Perform first article and envelope inspections, source inspections, and semi-complex surface plate set-ups.
- Interpret specifications, records, charts, manuals, and other data to determine acceptance or rejection, using mathematics to convert blueprint dimensions and tolerances.
- Layout and measure hole locations and centerlines on castings, forgings, and machine parts to control the machining process.
- Investigate causes of customer return failures and perform inspections within applicable specifications. Assist customer/government inspectors as needed.
- Communicate internal audit procedures clearly during audits.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; 3-5 years related inspection or calibration experience, or demonstrated ability.
- Ability to pass vision exams.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in basic math, including shop mathematics and trigonometry.
- Preferred experience with CMM operations, dimensioning, and tolerancing per ANSI Y 14.5.
- Knowledge of military standards or specifications.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, specifications, and drawings.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Must be able to move inside the plant, operate test equipment, detect parts and defects, and lift up to 50 pounds. Regular attendance and professional conduct required. May operate a forklift.
