Job summary

The Wissen Technology AVP/VP role places you embedded with a financial-services client, leading data pipeline development and platform integrations. You will own production ETL end‑to‑end, applying rigorous security and compliance in a regulated environment.

You will mentor engineers, shape reusable frameworks, and advocate engineering excellence as you deliver scalable data solutions across systems and teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software development with 4+ years Python in production.
• Strong Python fundamentals including async/concurrency and typing.
• Experience delivering ETL/ELT pipelines at scale (millions of records/day).
• Advanced SQL on major RDBMS and data modelling understanding.
• Experience building APIs and working with CSV/Parquet/Avro formats.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines in Python ingesting data from multiple sources.
• Create integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, files, and message queues.
• Orchestrate workflows with Airflow, Prefect or similar tools; schedule jobs.
• Write performant SQL and optimize data models across stores.
• Implement data quality checks, logging, monitoring and production support.
• Apply security controls, encryption, and audit trails; participate in CI/CD.
• Translate client requirements into technical designs and estimates; mentor juniors.

Role Overview

Wissen is hiring a Senior Python Developer to join a client engagement with a financial-services firm. You will be a Wissen employee working embedded in the client's engineering team, building and running the data pipelines and system integrations that move critical business data between platforms.

The work suits an engineer who has owned production ETL end to end and is comfortable working to the standards of a regulated environment.

• Design, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines in Python that ingest, transform and load data from databases, files, APIs and message queues.
• Build integrations between internal and third-party systems using REST/SOAP APIs, SFTP, and event streams (e.g., Kafka, MQ).
• Orchestrate and schedule workflows with tools such as Airflow, Prefect, Control‑M or Autosys.
• Write performant SQL and optimize data models and queries across relational and analytical stores.
• Build data quality, reconciliation and validation checks so that downstream reports and systems can trust the data.
• Add logging, monitoring and alerting; own production support, root‑cause analysis and incident fixes for your pipelines.
• Apply security and compliance controls: access management, encryption, masking of sensitive data, audit trails.
• Write unit and integration tests and ship through CI/CD pipelines with code review.
• Translate business and data requirements from client stakeholders into technical designs and estimates.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to coding standards and reusable frameworks.

What you need

• 7+ years of professional software development, with 4+ years of hands‑on Python in production.
• Strong Python fundamentals: OOP, packaging, typing, async/concurrency, and libraries such as pandas, PySpark or Polars, SQL Alchemy and requests.
• Proven delivery of ETL/ELT pipelines handling large volumes (millions of records per day or more).
• Advanced SQL on at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Sybase) and an understanding of data modelling.
• Experience building and consuming APIs (REST, JSON/XML) and working with file formats such as CSV, Parquet, Avro and fixed‑width.
• Hands‑on use of a workflow orchestrator (Airflow or similar) and job scheduling.
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Git and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Practical testing discipline (pytest) and production support experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Cloud data platforms: AWS (Glue, Lambda, S3, Redshift), Azure (Data Factory, Synapse) or GCP, and Snowflake or Databricks.
• Streaming and messaging: Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, or Spark Structured Streaming.
• Docker and Kubernetes; infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Enterprise integration or ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, MuleSoft or dbt.
• Experience with data governance, lineage and controls in a regulated environment.
