Job summary

DMI is seeking a Python Developer to design, build, and operate internal applications and automation supporting a large federal IT services program across Washington, DC and nationwide locations.

The role requires ownership from requirements through production support, with minimal supervision and a focus on root-cause fixes using evidence-based approaches. Collaboration with program leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of professional Python development experience
• Hands-on experience building web apps with Flask or similar framework
• Experience integrating with REST APIs (auth, pagination, errors)
• Linux server administration knowledge (systemd, permissions, Bash)
• Experience with pandas and SQL (PostgreSQL)
• Proficiency with Git and version control
• Experience with open source tools in production environments
• Hands-on DevOps including CI/CD and deployments
• Experience managing separate development and production environments
• Designing and testing backup/recovery strategies
• Experience writing automated tests (pytest)
• Strong communication and ability to work independently
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Occasional after-hours work may be required

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain internal Python web applications using Flask and Streamlit
• Automate recurring workflows (reporting, reconciliation, document assembly, ticket follow-up)
• Apply AI/LLM capabilities to extract data and summarize tickets
• Validate generated code before production
• Deliver work in short increments with stakeholder feedback
• Integrate with ServiceNow to report ticket data
• Link Asset Manager records with ServiceNow for end-to-end tracking
• Develop ticket monitoring and notification tools
• Follow least-privilege access in designs
• Produce SLA reporting and monthly close processes
• Ensure data accuracy across procurement, receiving, assets and data sources
• Parse and generate PDFs, Excel, CSV documents
• Deploy and operate apps in secure Linux environments
• Maintain separate dev/prod environments and promote changes via testing
• Follow DevOps practices (CI/CD, automated builds/tests/releases)
• Maintain deployment/monitoring scripts with rollback steps
• Monitor app health and perform root-cause analysis
• Write automated tests and follow secure coding practices
• Produce runbooks and knowledge articles
• Translate operations problems into clear requirements
• Brief leadership in plain language
