Job summary

Springer Nature, home of BMC Journals, seeks a Senior Publisher to lead a portfolio of open access life sciences journals, notably in Plant Sciences. Reporting to an Executive Publisher, you will oversee management, strategy and success of journals, coordinating with internal teams, Editors and the scientific community.

The role is full-time, permanent and can be based in London or New York on a hybrid basis. Strong publication leadership and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in life/biomedical/health sciences.
• Solid experience in journal academic publishing.
• Adaptable with a proactive problem-solving approach.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Persuasion and diplomacy in stakeholder interactions.
• Ability to work with colleagues at all levels and in teams.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Strong time management and organizational skills with deadlines.
• Experience building relations with researchers and industry partners.

Responsibilities

• Drive portfolio development and management of open access journals.
• Grow and develop a group of journals and implement annual development plans.
• Meet journals' submission, publication and transfer targets and turnaround times.
• Deliver excellent author experience and engage Editors-in-Chief, EBMs and societies.
• Manage complexity and adapt to a fast-paced publishing environment.
• Resolve pre- and post-publication issues with staff, editors and readers.
• Use data to support decisions and strategic planning.
• Develop contract terms and forecast financial performance.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external editors to balance stakeholders.
