The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is seeking a Senior Executive. DPW&T is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. A transportation infrastructure that includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area is maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing myriad activities, including snow and ice removal from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets, and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and everything in

The Senior Executive is responsible for the overall leadership and oversight of the department, providing counsel, motivation, and constructive performance feedback to all assigned staff in support of the mission and strategic goals of DPW&T. This leader will also provide technical guidance and oversight on all public works projects and programs, including regional transportation planning, engineering design, street maintenance, gravel roads, stormwater management, public right-of-way, traffic engineering and maintenance, construction inspection, and special projects. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible public works experience including at least seven (7) years of experience at the supervisory and management level in public works. Excellent writing, verbal, human relations, leadership and management skills are required. In addition, this position requires broad-based financial management/budgeting skills to manage the cost containment and conduct the financial projections of a complex operating budget.
