Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Labor Relations, seeks a Mediator (Program Coordinator III) to provide public sector labor mediation services. Responsibilities include contract mediation, grievance mediation, and processing unfair labor practice charges using dispute-resolution techniques to guide parties toward settlements.

Frequent travel across the Commonwealth is required and a valid driver’s license is necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years of full‑time or equivalent experience in business or public administration with program management, administration, coordination, planning or analysis.
• At least one year in a supervisory capacity.
• Substitutions may apply as described: up to two years for a bachelor’s degree; up to three years for a graduate degree; up to one year for a bachelor’s or higher degree in another major; note supervisory experience cannot be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Provide contract mediation, grievance mediation, and unfair labor practice charge mediation using dispute resolution and mediation techniques to facilitate communication and settlement.
• Assist public sector employers and select private sector employers across Massachusetts.
• Travel frequently across the Commonwealth and maintain a valid driver’s license.
