Job summary

Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center seeks a Senior Accounting Technician to provide advanced accounting, budgeting, reconciliation, and financial reporting support. You will review transactions for accuracy, reconcile accounts, ensure compliance with policies, and assist with procedures implementation.

The role requires attention to detail, knowledge of governmental accounting, and ability to apply county rules. Collaboration with Staff and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
• Financial reconciliation methods and internal controls.
• Payroll review processes, timekeeping, and wage/hour compliance concepts.
• Accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, and GL procedures.
• Financial reporting, coding, and recordkeeping requirements.
• Policy review, procedure development, and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile financial reports, accounts, ledgers, payroll records, expenditures, revenues, purchases and other fiscal data.
• Review financial transactions for proper coding, documentation, authorization, budget alignment, and policy adherence.
• Perform advanced accounting duties: AP, AR, GL activity, grants, purchasing, budgeting, cost tracking, year-end close.
• Research and resolve discrepancies in accounting records, payroll entries, invoices, POs, deposits, journal entries.
• Train staff on accounting procedures, payroll review processes, coding, documentation, and system use.
• Coordinate with Dept Director and County Budget Manager to develop the Dept Budget.
