Job summary

Mecklenburg County's Public Information Department seeks a Communications Specialist III to lead information, planning and deployment of public information tactics. You will serve as an official point of contact and spokesperson for a department or function.

Responsibilities include coordinating emergency communications, building media contacts, writing and editing news releases, and presenting to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum of six years of public relations, communications, or related experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or directly related field.
• Spanish-Language Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and execute specialized public information and/or education tactics.
• Plan, coordinate, and deploy emergency communications with Emergency Management.
• Establish and maintain contacts with media and community groups.
• Perform public speaking engagements; write scripts; coordinate with staff.
• Provide writing support; edit newsletters and publications.
• Develop outreach plans and promotional campaigns; research engagement tools.
• Design and distribute news releases, scripts, web content, and graphics.
• Receive inquiries; coordinate responses and resolve customer concerns.
• Coordinate resources for events; attend events and manage activities.
• Serve on-camera to convey County messaging; translate to Spanish preferred.
