Job summary

Nueces County seeks a skilled Public Information Officer to lead communications between the County and news media, serving as the public face during disasters and emergencies. This role is part of the Emergency Management Team and will coordinate with elected officials to ensure timely, accurate information dissemination.

You will craft press materials, manage social media, coordinate media interviews, and advise on messaging across channels to maintain brand consistency and policy adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) with a Master's Degree (M.A.) preferred from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of six (6) years progressively responsible strategic communications, media relations and/or public information experience, including working knowledge of print and online media.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Communicate critical information to the public effectively.
• Maintain county digital communication accounts, editorial calendars, compose planned and ad hoc content.
• Prepare and distribute all press releases and information for distribution by media outlets on behalf of Nueces County.
• Help develop a social media plan for Nueces County Commissioners Court.
• Help each member of the court with social media design and message delivery.
