Job summary

Grand Traverse County is seeking a Senior Program Counselor to provide information, assistance, and guidance to individuals seeking public benefits and government services. You will interview and counsel clients, review claims, determine eligibility, and refer to outside agencies.

Travel may be required. This role emphasizes advocacy, coordination with agencies, training, and supporting a team to meet objectives.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Counseling or related field required.
• Two to four years of related experience required.
• A four-year college degree may substitute for up to one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Advises and counsels clients and provides information regarding services and benefits.
• Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates information to make recommendations.
• Assists clients with applications for services and benefits and acts as liaison with outside agencies.
• Writes appeals for determinations by federal, state, and local agencies.
• Oversees daily operation of departmental programs and coordinates related activities.
